Universal Standard's Pick of the Month: The Foundation Bodysuit

By: Amanda Richards

The Foundation Bodysuit is our November Pick of the Month, and it really is the best one I've ever owned.

For years, I’ve tried — and tried, and tried — to work bodysuits into my everyday wardrobe. Usually, I see one I like. I get really excited. I buy it in my size, or one size up because my torso is long. I get it home and put it on. If it actually fits (which bodysuits rarely do, either because my true size doesn’t give me enough wiggle room for my torso, or because wearing a size larger is too baggy), there are other issues. The fabric is too stiff. The snaps between the legs are too…present. The shoulders pull, or the leg openings chafe against my skin. I’m ultimately disappointed, and yet, somehow, still determined. Eventually, I try again, because I love the idea of having a bodysuit or collection of bodysuits so very much, I can’t seem to let the idea go.

My efforts mustn’t have gone unnoticed by whichever supernatural force is influencing the fashion industry, because I think Universal Standard has arrived at the bodysuit I’ve been searching for, and it just so happens to be at the exact time I work here.

Yes, I realize I’m an employee at the very company that makes the bodysuit I’m trying to convince you to buy, but believe me: I would not bullshit you about this. I take bodysuits very, very seriously.

Our new bodysuits — the Foundation Short Sleeve Crewneck, the Foundation Long Sleeve Crewneck, and the Foundation Turtleneck — solve for basically every issue I’ve ever had by way of one important element: they’re all made with our Foundation fabric, which is legitimately the softest, most comfortable fabric I’ve ever had the pleasure of putting on my body. It’s also incredibly stretchy without stretching out, which means that you don’t have to worry about any sort of pulling and tugging that might bother you throughout the day, and it also won’t lose it’s shape over time. The snaps at the crotch are totally imperceptible — seriously, it felt like there was no hardware down there at all — and at no point do I feel restricted in movement.

Beyond that, they just look really, really good with everything. I prefer the turtleneck version (I feel it’s the most dramatic, a quality that we share), and like wearing it around the house. When it’s time to venture into the outside world, I just throw on a pair of pants or a skirt over it, and with literally zero thought, I have a complete outfit. My search for the perfect bodysuit has finally come to a close. Now I just have to figure out what to do with all of the other ones I’ve got shoved in my closet.
